Worth Waiting For?

Key themes: Faith, Bible, Obedience

Keywords: patience, waiting, wait,

Key Bible Verses: Ecclesiastes 3:1-8, Proverbs 25:15

It can be hard to have patience. Teenagers are not renowned for showing this quality, and the environment they are growing up in hardly helps. Our society tells us that we should have whatever we want, as soon as we want it. We can have fast food, broadband internet access with instant music and video downloads, same day delivery on most online purchases, and if we can’t afford all this now, we can pay by credit card. And yet, patience is such an important lesson to learn. The Bible reminds us of how much patience can achieve, and that all things happen in God’s perfect timing. This Rock Solid meeting aims to communicate these truths and to encourage young people to have patience.

One of the great causes of inner stress is dissonance, incongruence or unfaithfulness – when one part of us is not true to another part of us, such as when our lifestyle is not consistent with our beliefs. We tend to change things to avoid this tension. This can be a good thing (eg when we become more godly because we believe godliness is important). Something Wicked

Keywords: Evil, devil, spiritual warfare, armour of God

Key Bible Verses: Ephesians 6:10-11, 1 Peter 5:8-9, James 4:7

Satan is known for his tricks and lies so it is not surprising that the best scam he can pull off is to convince everyone he doesn’t exist. Of course, the truth is that he does exist and isn’t just a short red guy with a pointy tail and beard. He really wants to harm us and we have to take that seriously. Key themes: Jesus, Friends, Faith, Salvation, Influences

Keywords: Mission, evangelism, friendship, three stories

Key Bible Verses: John 4:1-30, John 15:26-27

The concept of evangelism often has a lot of negative connotations. It conjures up images of someone on a street corner, shouting through a megaphone. Christians often (wrongly) get the idea that you need to be a super-confident preacher to be an evangelist. This Core session presents the idea of ‘three-story’ evangelism – an approach to evangelism which is achievable for anyone.

Meeting aims:
In this session, we are aiming to study the following: • That evangelism is for all of us, not just the ‘professionals’ • That evangelism involves three stories • That it’s important to listen to other people’s stories and know God’s story, before we tell our own story

Obviously, not everyone is called to serve God overseas for an extended period of time, but our commission is to ‘make disciples of all nations’! Through this session, we aim to emphasise why overseas mission is important, but also why worship is crucial to the whole enterprise. We also hope to provide your young people with space to ask questions and air concerns they may have about the prospect of going overseas. Finally, we aim to make your group aware of just how many opportunities there are for overseas mission and just how many places they could go.

Things Fall Apart 2: When things go wrong

Key themes: Fear, Emotions, Suffering, Faith

Keywords: Suffering, Pain, Relationship with God

Key Bible Verses: 1 Samuel 23:1-13, Psalm 31

This session looks at the different courses of action we can take when things go wrong, both for us and for other people. Some of the poetry of suffering in the Bible show the writer grieving for what has happened, but still with elements of hope. At times, when we or someone we know are going through a difficult time, we struggle with how to react. This session will open up the idea of telling God how you feel and not feeling guilty about getting angry or frustrated.

Help the young people in your group to think through their own responses to this kind of suffering, when things go wrong for them or those they know.

Evangelism: My Story

Key themes: Faith

Keywords: Evangelism, story,

Key Bible Verses: John 4:39-42, 1 Peter 3:15

This is the first of a three-part series on evangelism. Evangelism is central to what RS2 is all about, so we’re excited about equipping your young people to reach their friends in Jesus’ name. This series focuses on a ‘three-story’ model of evangelism: my story, their story and God’s story. This first session unpacks ‘my story’. Evangelism can seem like a scary prospect, but we aim to help your young people understand that just sharing their own story of what Jesus has done for them can be really powerful.

Meeting aims:
That stories are powerful and knowing our story is really important when it comes to sharing our faith.
